For more than a year I have been experimenting with developing a line of botanical intention candles. This idea and process was prompted by a dear friend of mine who urged me to explore candle making. It wasn't something that was on my radar but candles play an integral part of every woman's circle and workshop that I offer.
When I began offering monthly community circles in 2014, each woman would light a tea light in circle to act as a reflection of their soul spark or fire. The candle was also symbolic of that which they were there to transmute or transform. The flame of each candle held the intention of the woman it was lit for, whether that person was in attendance or not.
As the workshops and circles I offered evolved, I moved away from individual tea lights and began lighting candles to honor each direction and element. When asking my community for feedback on the best aspects of attending an event with me, creating sacred space through the structure of the elements was always at the top of the list.
After offering numerous events over the years, I decided to scale back and create more room for creative pursuits. I often had women who were disappointed that they couldn't attend an event due to the simple fact that they weren't local. Given the ever increasing pace of life, I wanted to offer something of value to women without it being tied to attending a workshop. I wanted to have something readily available that women could use as an act of self-care. An item that set the ambience for devotional practices, whether that was journaling, prayer, bathing, or relaxing. A product that could assist one with connecting to the quiet space within.
I began experimenting with different blends, exploring fragrance oils, dyes, researching waxes, and trying different types of wicks. The search for suppliers ensued and I began how I always do, figuring it out as I go. After some attempts with some fragrance oils and having horrible headaches during the process, I went back to the drawing board and resolved to use only essential oils. I wanted a product that was pure, without synthetic dyes or fragrances, that people with sensitivities could enjoy. I longed for something breathtakingly beautiful in it's simplicity while also honoring mother earth.
I have spent a year dedicated to blending, alchemizing, and testing. This has permitted me to get to the nitty gritty of what I most deeply value. I value integrity, sustainability, handmade artisinal products, and supporting Canadian business, especially fellow women. I use the purest non-toxic ingredients, listing those ingredients to be transparent about what goes into each candle.
All of my supplies are purchased from Canadian companies. The graphic design, and labels were created by Mahshed with PaperOcelot who I absolutely adore and is local to Saskatoon. The beautiful wax seals are from Wax Seals in British Columbia. My dear friend Randi with Bright-Side Photography took the beautiful product photos.
The evolution of this candle line has also been a journey of deep soul growth for myself. I have learned the importance of communicating clear boundaries and deadlines. The power of outsourcing to skilled professionals that are aligned with my values and vision. And how hiring the right people can truly open doors for things we may never have considered. I have connected with and been supported by the most amazing women. This past year really had me dive into the depths of my soul and create something tangible to offer into the world. I have seen how so many of my past "failures" or "attempts" were actually just preparations for this line to finally come into fruition.
Developing and creating this candle line required exceptional perseverance and commitment. I am overflowing with gratitude for the people who have supported me, who have reminded me of my progress, who tested products and gave me candid feedback, and for those who urged me to keep going even when I felt weary.
I dedicate this candle line to every woman who longs for those moments of reprieve; where she can connect with her soul, relish in her innately powerful presence, and know that it resides within her always <3
